This area of Dungeness Bay and Dungeness Spit features some of the best birding on the Olympic Peninsula. Many waterfowl can be seen on and around the salt water on the north side of the house. The marshes on the south side of the house host a wide variety of birds as well. However, the property has recently been purchased by a private hunting club, so on a few days in the fall, renters may see some duck hunting in action. The large and graceful Arctic Tundra Swans also visit the area in the winter, before heading back north in the warmer months.
The local Audubon Center has tours available to local bird observation points, and seasonally they host boat cruises to nearby Protection Island where guests can view myriads of birds at the Zella M. Schultz bird sanctuary as well as many harbor seals which raise their pups on the beaches of the island. For the really adventurous, the owners can advise guests on the best way to tour around Protection Island by kayak. Those who love kayaking, this is an ideal location for launching and exploring the Dungeness Bay area, including kayak trips to the Dungeness Lighthouse.
Bicycling is also a great way to explore the scenic and historical sites in the area, so guests are advised to bring their bicycles and explore the mostly-flat, back roads of the Sequim-Dungeness valley. There are several excellent golf courses in the Sequim area, so if guests like to golf, this is a great place to bring their clubs and enjoy the beautiful fairways of the golf courses here.
Depending on the tides and seasons, glampers can dig for clams or catch some of the famous Dungeness crabs, for an unbeatable fresh seafood experience. Local shellfish licenses for gatherers are available nearby as well.
