Mariposa

Named after a Native American tribe, Mariposa, California has a long economic history in both the logging and mining industries. However, this county is better known for its Spanish name, which in English translates to butterfly. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Mariposa County offers close access to Yosemite National Park and a drive away from San Francisco. This county, and it's surroundings, offer glampers everything from zip-lining to organic wineries. Mariposa's Museum and History Center is a great recreational activity to learn about Mariposa's mining history, as well as great fun for the kids. And for the adults, there are some fantastic pubs, local breweries, and causal dining restaurants to choose from.
